Steve Ashton is the UK Clinical Excellence and Education Manager at Spex, responsible for developing and delivering a robust, national education programme for clinicians and wheelchair users. Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Steve supports education delivery across the UK, helping teams translate best practice into real-world outcomes.
With nearly 20 years in the industry, Steve brings a rare end-to-end perspective—having worked as an equipment prescriber, within powerchair manufacturing, and in seating manufacturing. He also spent seven years working closely with NHS wheelchair services, assessing clients and supporting complex needs. Steve holds a PG Cert in postural management for people with severe and complex neuromuscular conditions, underpinning his practical approach with deep clinical expertise.
What inspires Steve most is doing everything possible to help wheelchair users sit comfortably, safely, and with the right support—starting with a thorough clinical assessment and translating that into truly bespoke seating solutions. He’s particularly passionate about the power of creating stability within a seat, because when posture and support are right, the impact can be profound: comfort improves, function can increase, and other therapies often work more effectively.
Steve is driven by continual learning and a genuine commitment to supporting clinicians and users with practical, usable skills. He loves teaching and has become a highly trusted clinical trainer, known for his personal, approachable style and his ability to make complex concepts clear and applicable. Today, he’s widely relied upon for delivering clinical education across the UK and beyond, helping raise standards and confidence wherever he works.
The Spex values that resonate most with him are integrity, professionalism, and a shared commitment to creating amazing seating solutions. Outside of work, Steve is proudly family-focused—always up for an adventure—and he enjoys trail running whenever he can.
