Safe transport isn’t just about having a car seat or fastening your seatbelt; it’s also about ensuring the person stays secure for the entire journey.

Many vehicle harnesses have unique features that make it difficult for the user to exit the vehicle seat during travel. For example, vehicle harnesses may offer buckles that are difficult to undo independently or require a tool to release the buckle mechanism.

Additionally, it is imperative that the selected vehicle harness is able to work in conjunction with the vehicle safety systems. The Safe2Go Harness has been crash tested to ensure its design supports the operation of the vehicle seat belt and other vehicle safety systems, which protect the user in the event of a motor vehicle accident.

2. Creates a sense of security and calm through developing a travel routine. 

For some children and adults, having clear physical boundaries provides comfort. A key component of the Safe2Go Harness is its vest with adjustable Velcro straps. Adjusting these straps to the user’s preference can create a calming, deep-pressure effect.

The Safe2Go vest can be fitted to the user before entering the vehicle (pre-fit mode) or after entering the vehicle when first installed on the vehicle seat (in vehicle mode). Having these two options allows you to tailor the travel routine and procedure to the user’s individual needs. For example, pre-fit mode provides users with the opportunity to regulate themselves outside the vehicle when wearing the vest before continuing with the installation process. This can be particularly helpful for users who benefit from having time to transition between task steps.

Some users may attempt to undo their seatbelt, climb out of their seat, or physically try to get the attention of the driver while the vehicle is moving. Even small moments of distraction can significantly increase the risk of sudden braking or an accident, which can have life-threatening implications for the user, driver, other passengers, and road users.

The Safe2Go Harness design firmly secures the user at the shoulders and pelvis. This limits the user’s available upper body range of motion, which could otherwise be used to wriggle out of other vehicle harnesses and contribute to driver distraction.

4. Provides postural support 

Vehicle harnesses can address the postural support needs of older children and adults who require postural support when travelling in a vehicle. The webbing of vehicle harnesses is firmly tightened during installation and fitment, providing support to the user’s body.

The design of the Safe2Go Harness has incorporated the research from wheelchair seating and postural care. Research tells us that when the user’s pelvis is well supported and stabilised, their overall trunk control and positioning improve. In the Safe2Go Harness, this is achieved through a singular webbing channel that is fed from the shoulders to the pelvis, meaning that when the shoulder straps are tightened, this also increases the amount of support provided across the user’s pelvis. This, in conjunction with the cross strap on the Safe2Go Harness, prevents the user from sliding down the vehicle seat and ensures their trunk is positioned correctly relative to the vehicle’s seat belt and airbags.
